Ever Bilena and Blackwater Elite led blood donation drive to help support life
Last September 1, 2014, the Blackwater Elite Basketball team, and employees of Ever Bilena Cosmetics, Inc. (EBCI), along with their friends and relatives, gathered at the company's head office for Ever Bilena’s bi-annual blood drive. The event was organized in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross as part of EBCI’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, where 213 bags of blood were donated.
Many of the Blackwater management staff and players were first time blood-donors, and found their experience very fulfilling. Even former Blue Eagle, Raymond "Bacon" Austria, whose blood was unfortunately rejected due to his colds at the time of donation, saw the importance of the blood drive for those in dire need of blood transfusion. Although it would have been his first time to participate, Austria states that he really wanted to get involved because "there will be people needing blood talaga."
Juami Tiongson, also former Atenean and Blackwater's first pick at the 2014 PBA Rookie Draft, had never donated blood prior to EBCI's event.", I've been blessed with so much and I wanted to share God's grace to the people who are in need," shares Tiongson for why he contributed. "I'm honored by the experience and hopefully, it can save lives in the future," he adds.
When the company first began this campaign in 2009, Mozhgan Amaranto, EBCI's Director for Human Resources, shared that they had envisioned getting 100 people to volunteer as already a huge feat. And year after year, the company has continued to surpass its goals. EBCI's commitment was acknowledged during the Philippine Red Cross's annual recognition ceremony last August 6, 2014, where the company received the "Blood Services Platinum Award." To date, a total of 1079 bags of blood has been contributed through EBCI's blood drive.
Besides the bloodletting program, the company has also actively provided substantial monetary support to the Philippine Red Cross's various projects and activities. According to Silliman Sy, EBCI's COO, EBCI has chosen to maintain strong ties with the non-profit because it "differentiates our CSR program from other cosmetics companies which mostly focus on breast cancer awareness." Just as the blood drive has become a tradition at the company, EBCI looks forward to continued partnerships with the Philippine Red Cross for the years to come!

MANILA, Philippines — Blackwater did what was deemed improbable back then.
Riding high on their impressive Game 1 win, the Elite proved it was no fluke with a come-from-behind win, 80-74, to end NLEX’s two-year reign in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
“We proved that any team can win,” said Blackwater coach Leo Isaac, whose team rallied from 18 down and showcased great resolve down the stretch en route to the sweep and the championship.
Robby Celiz created match up problems with his quickness and strength at the fourth spot to finish with 20 points, 14 in the second half.
Justin Chua added 17 points while Allan Mangahas, whom Isaac thought should’ve been named MVP of the conference, showed why his coach said such statement with 13 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
The Road Warriors looked like the team of old, the team which dominated the league and bagged the last four championships, as they led by as much as 18 points in the third quarter.
“We can’t win this if we lose our composure, we have to make stops, make good shots and play the game possession for possession,” added Isaac.
The Elite did just that — outscoring the Road Warriors, 22-10, in the third period. Nico Alva had 14 points for NLEX, which shot just two-of-19 from three and 35.6% from the field.
Blackwater took its first lead on a jumper by Chua, 65-64, with 8:18 left and never relented.
A turnaround jumper by Chua made it, 69-64. Baser Amer tied the game at 72 but Mangahas answered back with a go-ahead jumper from the top of the key for a 74-72 edge with 1:25 remaining.
Down by three in the waning seconds, NLEX failed to get a decent shot with Ronald Pascual hoisting a tough-angled three from the right corner with Blackwater’s defense draped all over him.
Kevin Ferrer was fouled and iced the game on a free throw with 1.2 ticks left.
Not Just Any "Juan"
As the saying goes, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Being the son of a prominent political figure in the country, his future was somehow already predestined. It was no longer a surprise that he eventually became a legislator like his father, Senator Edgardo Angara.
But this "Juan" is different and has already made a name for himself. An achiever even during his younger years, Cong. Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara has filed 10 national bills that became laws during the 14th Congress. Now on his 3rd term as representative of the Lone District of Aurora in the 15th Congress, he continues to stand out and make a name of his own in the world of politics.
"I don't think there's a regular day in my life," explains the legislator when asked what a regular day is for him. "One day, I'm working until midnight; the next day, I'll have to go out of town." This illustrates how busy Cong. Sonny Angara's life is. On top of that, he also wears different hats that require him to fulfill different roles and to give people what they expected from him.
Education and Employment for His Countrymen
He envisions a society with better economic opportunities for everyone. This is why he pushed the law that increased the wage of teachers, the Salary Standardization Law. As a lawmaker, another advocacy is to empower the Filipinos. And so, Cong. Sonny will focus on passing bills for fresh graduates and degree holders to help them land a job without going through so much financial hassle. He explains, "There are no laws for the fresh grads to date, so that's my goal in the future."
Quality Time for His Family
"I never thought I'd be softer and more affectionate after having my children," admits the legislator when asked about how he describes himself as a father. "As far as being a husband is concerned, I am very obedient," the congressman teasingly explained.
Healthy and Wellness for Himself
"I make it a point to exercise even if I'm just at home," says Cong. Sonny. He believes that he owes it to himself to keep his body healthy and fit in order for him to carry out his duties. He also keeps himself looking sharp and smart by choosing the clothes he wears on certain occasions. "I also see to it that I smell nice," he adds.
He chooses scents that fit his busy lifestyle like that of Blackwater Elite Homme. This fragrance line is a collection of contemporary fragrances that appeal to men bearing the mark of modernity and complexity. No wonder, Cong. Sonny Angara chooses Blackwater Elite to be his daily scent.
With his dazing smile and sensational demeanor brought about by his exemplary hygiene and grooming routine, Cong. Sonny Angara is just the perfect choice to be the newest ambassador of Blackwater Elite Homme. Cong. Angara's magnetic charm and enchanting personality earned him the slot to Blackwater's line up of highly regarded endorsers.
